Review ( Month of Sep -2012)

On 30th September 2012 (Sunday) at 6.00 PM. M .K. Ananthalakshmi a child prodigy is lucky to born in a great musical family of violin artistes Parur M.S. Anantharama Iyer (grand father), M.A. Sundareswaran (uncle) and she is very proud to have M.A. Krishnaswami (violin-father) and Lakshmi Krishnaswami (vocal-mother) is no doubt naturally she has music in her blood. She is our asthana vidhushi of VDS in violin and performing since 2008. But to-day she performed her excellent vocal concert and has been under the tutelage of Nithyashri Mahadeavan.

At just 13 her over all knowledge is high, voice is good, bold and clear. Selections of the songs were fine and had variety. Poorvikalyani was good. Muthaippu swarams were fine. Main saaveri was good – sang the kriti sri rajagopala well. Sindhu bhairavi thukkada was sung very well.

Her cousin Parur M. S.Ananthasree on the Violin and Varun Ramasami on mridangam gave very good support.

AT 7.15 PM: G. Adityaram a flautist is regular artiste in VDS and has been performing his 5th concert. His naadham (tonal quality) of the flute was very good. He plays kritis crisply and neatly. Well trained by gurus Sikkil Baskaran (present) and Alathoor Nagarajan (past).

He played pantuvarali well. Main charukesi was very good. After a short but neat alapana he played aadamodikalade very well. Kalpana swarams had variety.

V. Supraja on violin, R. Akshayram on mridangam and S. Krishna on gatam gave a very good support.

 

On 29th September 2012 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM; Mridula Sridhar performed an excellent vocal concert at VDS. She has smooth and good voice. She is very confident and sure.Singing kritis neatly. Pattantharam is very good and well trained by her guru Sugantha Kalamegam.

Madhyamavathi was sung well. After a short but good alapana in kalyani, she rendered the kriti pankaja lochana very well. Niraval - swaram was neat. She sang the thukkadas attaractively.

Parur M.K. Ananthalakshmi (violin) and K. S. Ramakrishnan (mridangam) gave able support to Mridula.

At 7.15 PM; B. Ramaa is a student of Lakshmi Krishnaswami, presented her excellent vocal concert for VDS. Her over all knowledge is good. Her voice is asset for her - sweet, shrill & weight. Guru Lakshmi Krishnaswami has trained her very well.

She sang main poorvikalyani very well. Alapana was good. Kriti enneramum was rendered well. Niraval –swaram was fine. She sang some attractive thukkadas.

M.K. Ananthalakshmi (violin) and S. Gomathishankar (mridangam) gave a fine support to Ramaa.

On 28th September 2012 (Friday) at 6.00 PM. Eashwar Balaji performed a very good vocal concert. At 15 his voice is settling now. He is singing the kritis well. He is well trained by Sakunthala Seshadri his guru.

Hamsadwani was good. Main kalyani also good; shyama satriys kriti pirana varalichi was sung very well. Swaram kalpana also very good. Sindhu bhairavi thukkada was fine.

T. Kishore on the Violin and Swamimalai S. Girish Hari on mridangam gave a very good support.

At 7.15 PM; B. Nandita performed a very good vocal concert. Her voice is fine – bold &clear. It is sweet also. She sings kritis neatly. Guru Suba Ganesan has trained her very well.

Kaanada kriti was sung well. Main kalyani alapana though short it was good, She sang the kriti ninnu vina very well. Niraval and swaram was also good.

Accompanists V. Shreyas (violin) and D. Sivaraman (mridangam) gave a good support to Nanditha.

On 15th September 2012 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM; G.M. Amrutha the artiste from Mumbai has performed a very good vocal concert at VDS. This is her maiden performance at Chennai. Her pattantharam is very good and has been well trained by her guru Subha Iyer (Mumbai). Amruthas voice is good-clear & fluent. Singing the kritis neatly. At 13 she is bold and well composed.

Main kalyani was very good. She has prepared well – including kalpanaswaram. We thank the large number of audiences assembled at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha (mini) to encourage the young artistes.

V. Shreyas (violin), R. Santhoshram (mridangam) and K.R. Narayen (kanjeera) gave a very good support to the Mumbai singer.

Kalaimamani Manakkal Sri. R. Rangarajan a veteran carnatic musician, chief guest of the programme blessed the youngsters.

On 14th September 2012 (Friday) at 6.30 PM; Manaswini Ramachandran's bharathanatyam performance was marked by a fine and elegant limb movements with good foot work.

Her dancing attitude was fine in the guru sthuthi, nrittam, alarippu and sringara lahari. Lalgudi Jayaramans Anagayarkanni varnam was very lengthy and taxing. She displayed all the episodes clearly.

Nattuvangam by mother – guru Revathi Ramachandran, Vocal by Preethi Mahesh (fine), Mridangam by K.R. Venkatsubramanian, Violin by Rijesh Gopalakrishnan and flute by Devarajan was very supportive to the elegant dancer.

Dr (Mrs.) Nirmala Prasad, Principal, M.O.P. Vaishnav College, chief guest of the evening blessed Manaswini.

On 09th September 2012 (Sunday) at 6.30 PM; Rithi Ramji presented her excellent bharathanatayam performance at VDS. She has ideal features for a dancer; elegant limb movements, very good bhava and good foot work, has been very well trained by guru Priya Karthikeyan.

She answered the jathis of the varnam in ragam shankarabharanam neatly. Sancharibhava was enacted very well. Krishna nee begane vaaro was also very good.

Vocal by Girija Ramaswami, Mridangam by Venkatsubramanian, Violin by Muruganandham and flute by Shankaranarayanan was fine and very supportive to Rithi.

On 07th September 2012 (Friday) at 6.30 PM; Janani Ramachandran & Ananya Rajagopal performed their very good bharathanatyam at VDS. They dance together well with symmetrical movements. Foot work is good. Well trained by Priya Karthikeyan their guru.

They did the lengthy varnam very well. Lord Krishna's episodes in sancharibhava were depicted very well. Expression for ennathavam was good. Kadanakudhookalam thillana was elegant.

Vocal support by Sashidaran, Mridangam by Ramanan, Violin by Muruganandam and flute by Shankaranarayanan was very supportive to the young dancers.

Mrs. Hema Nagarajan, Principal, PSBB millennium school, chief guest of the evening blessed the dancers.

 

02nd September 2012 (Sunday) at 6.00 PM. M. Harinee a student of Uma Prabhakar (Mayavaram Sisiters) has performed a very good vocal concert. Her voice is good and soft. Selections of the songs were fine and had variety.
Her niraval and swaram kalpana was very good for bandhuvarali kriti andhundaka Main karaharapriya alapana was very good. For dhayanillaiya kanna. She sang the thukkadas very well.

Shradhha on the Violin and Thippirajapuram Hari on mridangam gave their very good support.

AT 7.15 PM: That was K.P. Nandini, here we are happy to mention that she has been selected for the prestigious `Yuva Kala Bharathi' award by Bharat Kalachar for violin for 2012. Already she has won the thambura prize for vocal and violin prize for her best performance from VDS in the VAA top 10 contests conducted earlier.

She is a child prodigy for both vocal and violin. She came to VDS in 1999 at just 8 she was. Now she is excelling both as vocalist and violinist, performing in all the major sabhas in festivals and also traveling foreign countries.

To-day her concert was marked by fine rendition of the kritis and her selections of the songs also fine and had variety. Nadhathanumanism (sidhha ranjani), anupamagunambudhi (atana), sri jagadhambigaiye (lathangi), paaramukamadhano(soolini), maragtha lingam (vasantha) and thruvadi charanam (kambodhi) all of them were rendered nicely with ragalakshana. She sang ennakavi padinalum with bhakthi rasa & pathos.

Shraddha on violin, R. Kishore on mridangam gave a fine support to Nandini.
 

On 01st September 2012 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM. S. Krithika from Tanjore performed a very good vocal concert. Her voice is shrill & versatile. She is well trained by her guru Mythili Kannan.

She sang O rangasayee very well. Main kalyani was very good. Alapana and swarams were good for kriti aaroodam ondru solladi. Chakravaham kriti was sung nicely.

Violin by M. Shrikanthh and Mridangam by S. Karthiknarayanan gave a good support to Krithika.

At 7.15 PM. S. Ashwini performed a good vocal concert. Her voice is good, bold and clear. Guru Kamala Venkatraman has trained her very well in kriti aspect. She sang all the kritis neatly.

Thaaye thirubura sundari kriti was sung nicely. Keeravani alapana was good. Kriti kaliyunde katha was also good. Kalpanaswaram also very good.

Violin by T. Kishore and mridangam by K. S. Ramakrishnan gave their good support.
