Review ( Month of May 2012)

On 27th May 2012 (Sunday) at 6.00 PM. That yet another excellent vocal concert by C. Vignesh a student of Delhi V. Muthukumar for VDS. His voice is fine, bold and versatile. His over all knowledge is also very good at 17. Selections of the kritis for the concert was very good. Most of them rare kritis.

His poorvikalyani alapana was in detail and has some imaginative pidis. Niraval & kalpanaswarams also in detail for aanandha natamaduvar. Main sankarabharanam also sang very well. Lone thukkadda was very nice.

Little M.K.Ananthalakshmi used parur style of poorvikalyani and sankarabharanam in the alapanas on the Violin and P. V. Srivatsa on mridangam gave his good support.

At 7.15 PM. Rohini Shankar presented her excellent vocal concert. She is our regular artiste and this is being her 7th concert here. Her knowledge is good in music and performing with involvement. She is a dedicated student of guru Rajalakshmi Srinivasan.

Selections of the items for the concert was very good and had variety. Sub-main lathangi was sung very well.Alapana, niraval and swarams everything was good. Main thodi alapana also good, she got tired soon for want of stamina.

In fact the accompanists have enhanced the music for to days concert. Shraddha replied both lathangi and thodi very nicely. She showed her maturity on that. B. Sai Shankar on Mridangam and K.R. Narayan on Kanjeera gave a very good support to Rohini.

Dr. Abhirama Sundari, Chief guest of the programme has blessed the youngsters.

On 26th May 2012 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM. M.P. Savita & M.P. Akilandeswari performed thier excellent vocal concert. They are our regular atistes and this is being their 6th concert at VDS. We are happy to note that they have improved in all aspects. Well trained by guru Seetha Narayanan.

Akilandeswaris poorvikalyani alapana was fine and has some nice pidis. Niraval and kalpana swarms had variety. Main keeravani alapana was in detail for kriti kaliyunde. They sang the thukkadas nicely.

Violin by T. Kishore and mridangam by Shiva Sankar gave a very good support.

At 7.15 PM. K.R. Srivats performed his yet another excellent vocal concert. This is his 4th concert at VDS. His voice is bold & clear. His imaginations and manodharma is of high order at 17. Guru Kala Acharya Sironmani Chembai R. Vaidyanathan has trained him very well on all aspects.

Srivats charukesi; alapana was sang flawlessly. His kalpanaswarams were fine very imaginative. It was very nice to listen all the three artistes V. Supraja on the violin played very competitively with her kalpanaswarams. Also by the mridangist T.Karthik. Main Hiranmayim (lalitha) alapana has some good pidis. Swarams had variety.

On 25th May 2012 (Friday) at 6.00 PM. S. Anirudh performed a fine and very good key-board recital at VDS. This is his maiden performance here. A child prodigy @ 10 his over all knowledge is high. Confidence also very good. Well trained by guru Hema Malini.

Selections of the kritis for the concert is good. He played all the kritis neatly. Naadha thanumaniasam was rendered nicely. He should control the speed. Main hamsanatham alapana was fine. Played the kriti panduruthikolu nicely. Kalpanaswaram was also very good. He played the thukkadas melodiously.

Accompanists M. Shrikanth (violin) and Swamimalai S. Girish (midangam) gave a good support to him.

At 7.15 PM. K. Aparna gave her yet another excellent vocal concert. Her voice in fine, bold & clear. Rendering the kritis neatly. Well trained by her guru Gayathri Venkataraghavan.

Poorvi Kalyani alapana was good for kriti gnanamu sakaradha. Kalpanaswaram had variety in karaharapriya kriti pakkala nila. Thillana was sung melodiously.

T. V. Sukanya on violin, T. Karthik on Mridangam gave their fine support.

On 19th May 2012 (Saturday) at 6.30 PM. Nivedhitha Sridhar performed a fine & very good dance at VDS. She is very lean, tall and has flexible limb movements. She is very confident also. Dancing with keen interest and involvement. She is well trained by Guru H. N. Nandini.Her different posses of lord Krishna in the Muralidhara kouthuvam was fine Her abhinaya was fine in the varnam swami naan undhan adimai. Her face expressions were fine. Sanchari bhava was fine in enna thavam.

Vocal by Rajeswari Kumar, Arcot Balaji (Mridangam) & K.R. Suresh (Violin) have given their fine support.

Kalaimamani Smt. Indra Rajan the bharathanatyam exponent, chief guest of the programme blessed the dancer.

On 13th May 2012 (Sunday) at 6.00 PM. S. Mlleshwar Sastry performed an excellent vocal concert at VDS. His voice is fine, bold and clear and has been well trained by his guru Lakshmi Krishnaswami. At 15 his over all knowledge is also very good. Selections of the kritis for to-days concert was had variety.He sang malayamarutham (sub-main) kriti very well. Alapana was neat. Kriti and kalpanaswaram were rendered neatly. Main saveri kriti shankari samguru; alapana, niraval and kalpanaswaram were rendered very well.

Little M.K.Ananthalakshmi on the Violin and Kalpattu V. Sairam on mridangam gave their good support.

At 7.15 PM. Sri Krishnan Subramanian played a very good key-board recital at VDS. He is our regular artiste and this is being her 7th concert here. We appreciate his involvement in this art form and also showing his keen interest. His confidence is very high at 15. Various gurus have trained him very well. His present guru is S.P. Ananthapadmanabha. He played all the kritis well. Malayamarutham kriti (sub-main) was good. Main Charukesi was also played very well. Alapana, niraval and kalpana swaram were fine.

V. Prashanth on Mridangam and K.R. Narayan on Kanjeera gave a fine support to him

On 06th May 2012 (Sunday) at 6.30 PM. We just witnessed an excellent dance performance by the student of Sudha Vijayakumar, A.G. Subha Shree. She is very agile with brisk limb movements.

She did the brisk jathi in the shankarabharanam varnam neatly. In Devi keerthanam we could see a furious kaali. Tha Thai endraduvar – she danced very elegantly in this piece. Sriramachandra both music and dance synchronized so well that we could see as one unit.

Maadu meikkum kanna was very interesting. Full credit to guru.

V. Venugopal (vocal), mridangam by Gajendra Ganesan and violin by Sigamani were guided the dancer very well by their fine support.

On 05th May 2012 (Saturday) at 6.30 PM. Harini Radhakrishnan has performed a very good dance at VDS. At just 12 she is very confident. She did the lengthy varnam; Krishna leela in ragam simhendramadhymam neatly. The various episodes were enacted cleanly. She is well trained by Guru H. N. Nandini.Sivasakthi dance was good. Her bhava was o.k. for adhuvum solluval. Thillana was difficult raga pattern was performed very well.Vocal by Rajeswari Kumar, C. K. Vasudevan (Mridangam) & M.S. Kannan (Violin) have given their fine support.

Kalaimamani Kuttralam Sri. M. Selvam, bharathanatyam exponent, chief guest of the programme blessed the dancer.
