On 24th January 2010 (Sunday) at 6.30 PM. R. Suchitra a student of Sikkil Vasanthakumari has performed a very good dance for VDS. She is very confident, slim and flexible body. Her foot-work was very good. It was a full fledged programme.

Suchitra’s foot-work was brisk in Tanjore Quartet kalyani Jatheeswaram. Her abhinaya was good in Muthuswami deekshidar’s thodi varnam she answered the jathis neatly. Her bhava was fine in bho sambho. Limb movements were elegant in mayil vahana padam. Thillana in Dhanasree ragam (Swathi thirunal) was brisk.

Girish Menon on vocal, mridangam by Baba Prasad, Sunil Baskar on violin and co-nattuvangam by Rajan have rendered their good support.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan of Gana Mukundapriya, chief guest of the programme blessed Suchitra.

On 23rd January 2010 (Saturday) at 6.30 PM. M.S. Ananthashree now she has turned as a Bharathanatyam dancer at VDS. She is our regular artist in Violin and accompanying many budding artists. Born in a musicians family, her great grand father (Parur Sundaram Iyer), grand father (Parur M.S. Anantharama Iyer) and parents (M.A. Sunadareswaran and Rama Sundareswaran), hence music is in her blood. She has fine knowledge and dancing with full involvement with smiling face throughout. She has been very well trained by Guru Roja Kannan.

She started with thodayamangalam (thalamalika-ragamalika) a composition of Annamayya. Her bhava was good in Deekshidar’s Ananda natana prakasam (Kedaram) keerthanam. Her foot-work was elegant in Dhanashree varnam (nee indha mayam; Papanasam Sivan). Her abhinaya and nrittam was fine in the varnam. Sanchari bhava was fine in netrandhi nerathile. Kadanakudhoogalam thillana was danced very well.

Music support by A.S. Murali on vocal with his fine voice, mridangam by Veda Krishnan, S. Vijaya Raghavan on Violin rendered their fine support.

Mridangam maestro Mr. Umayalpuram Sivaraman, chief guest of the programme blessed Ananthashree.

On 22nd January 2010 (Friday) at 6.30 PM. Sruthi Anand has performed fine and very good Bharathanatyam. She is our regular artist and this is her 3rd performance for VDS. She has all the features for a dancer. Slim and flexible body. Now she has improved in all departments over her previous performances. At 14 her knowledge and confidence are very good. Dancing with full involvement. Guru Sasirekha Rammohan has trained her very well.

Sruthi’s limb movements were very good in traditional Vishnu gowthuvam. Her bhava was good in lathangi varnam. Her foot-work & bhava was fine in Annamayya’s allarulu padam. Sanchari bhava was fine in Purandara dasar padam. Foot-work was brisk and elegant in Dhanashree thillana (Swathi thirunal)

To-day both the dance and music were fine. Sasidharan (vocal), mridangam by Baba Prasad, Veeramani on Violin and Srinivasan on flute rendered their fine support.

On 17th January 2010 (Sunday) at 6.00 PM. M.P. Akilandeswari & M.P. Savitha has performed a very good vocal concert. Their voice is fine and sweet. Singing in one voice. Paatantharam is very good. Guru Seetha Narayanan has trained them very well.

Savitha sang the Abhogi alapana was short and neat. Their niraval and swaram for kriti nekkurugi sung very well. Akilandeswari,s amrudhavarshini alapana also short and like tutored. Niraval & swarams had variety for kriti Aanandhamrutha varshini. They sang the tukkadas beautifully.

Bhavana on Violin and V. Sri Krishnan on Mridangam gave a very good support.

At 7.15 PM. R. Karthik Narayanan has performed his 4th consecutive excellent vocal concert. His over all knowledge is good. Voice is fine, bold and manly. Flowing all the three octaves flawlessly. Manodharma and confidence are also good at 16.
Guru Dr. Rajkumar Bharathi has trained him very well.

His sub-main Saveri, alapana was perfect. He displayed fine muthaippu swarams for kriti Muruga (P. Sivan). Main kalyani alapana has some nice pidis. He sang the kriti eatha vunara with ragalakshana. Lone thukkada Purandara dasar’s Narayana has sung beautifully.

Shraddha (Violin) and R. Srinivas (mridangam) gave fine support to Karthik.

On 16th January 2010 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM. K.R. Shrivatsa has performed a fine and very good vocal concert. His voice is fine and good range. Paatantharam is very good. Guru Chembai R. Vaidyanathan has trained him very well. His over all knowledge, imagination and confidence were good at 15.

Aarabhi varnam a composition of Tiger Varadachariar has sung very well by him with pancha natai. Maaya maala gowla alapana has some nice pidis for kriti Indha paraka. Main Bhairavi alapana was very good. Niraval & swarams had variety for kriti Ra Ra dasaratha. His poorna chandrika thillana was fine.

Sriram Sridhar on Violin and Sri Seshari Vyas on Mridangam gave a very good support.

At 7.15 PM. G. Raja Ganapathi who is just 11 year old boy. At this very young age his knowledge, imaginations and manodharma are remarkable. He has all the features to become a top grade musician. His selections of the songs were fine. Many of them gana ragas and also rare kritis. Guru B. Uma Shankar is training this little boy very well.

Varnam (gambira natai; Dr. Balamurali krishna), Gajanana Ganeswara (panduvrali; Neelakanta Sivan), Kanakanga ka (kanakangi; Koteeswara Iyer), thillai chidambarame (Kappi narayani; Marimuthu Pillai) and neeyallal (kanada; GNB) all rendered with ragalakshana. His sub-main Akilandeswari (Dwajavanthi; Deekshidar) alapana and swarams were fine to listen. Main Ennalurake (suba panduvarali; Thiyagarajar), in this particular raga alapana he made stuthi bedhams in hindolam, madhyamavathi, mohanam and suddha dhanyasi., Niraval and swarams had variety. Andal thiruppavai (ragamalika) and Darbari kanada thillana has sung beautifully.

R. Shyam (Violin) and Sumesh Narayanan (mridangam) gave fine support to Ganapathi.

On 10th January 2010 (Sunday) at 6.30 PM. R. Divyalakshmi’s Bharathanatyam performance was marked by fine limb movements, brisk foot-work and dancing with full involvement. She is our regular artist and this is her third performance at VDS. She has all the features for a dancer. Slim and flexible body. Now she has improved in all departments over her previous performances. Guru Binesh Mahadevan has trained her very well.

Her sanchari bhava was fine in kamas varnam, velanai kanbom vaarier. She answered the intricate jathis neatly. Her foot-work was fine and elegant in Jathiswaram and Dhanashree thillana. Bhava was fine in Ambal stuthi (kedaragowlai; devargalai kathidave). 

To-day both the dance and music were synchronized very well. Chitrambari krishnakumar with her fine and versatile Vocal, elegant and diligent mridangam by Ganesan, Karaikurichi Balaji on veena and Shankar on Violin rendered their fine support.

On 03rd January 2010 (Sunday) at 6.00 PM. Deepthi Suresh presented a very good vocal performance for VDS. This is his maiden performance. Her voice is fine, bold and clear. Guru Padma Sandilyan has trained Deepthi very well. Selections of the kritis were fine.

Her main Panthuvarali alapana was very good. Niraval and swaram has detailed and imaginative pidis for kriti Ramanadham Bajeham. Her gamakas were fine to listen for the kritis Gajavadhana, Sugunamule and ean palli kondeeraiya. Koovia azhaithal (valachi) and Oruthimagnangi (Behag) were sung melodiously.

Priyamvadha on Violin and R. Santhoshram on Mridangam gave a very good support.

On 02nd January 2010 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM. Aamani from New Jersey performed a fine and very good vocal performance for VDS. Her voice is fine, bold and versatile. Paatantharam also very good and has been trained very well by guru Uma Prabhakar (Mayavaram Sisters).

Started with fine Sri raga varnam and followed by Sri raghukula (Hamsadwani) with swarams, Theliyaleru rama (Dhenuka) and Sakala (atana) were rendered nicely. Sub-main Saveri for kriti muruga muruga has sung with fine alapana and swarams. Main lathangi alapana was neat for kriti Aparathamulu and swarams has nice pidis. Brindavani thillana has Sung beautifully.

Kamala kiran vinjamuri (US)Violin and Aparajit Sriram (US) Mridangam gave a very good support to Aamani.

At 7.15 PM. Abhinav Muralidharan is our regular artist in key-board and this is his 4th concert at VDS. Now he has improved in all departments, alapana, niraval and swarams were played by him with proper anuswarams. His tonal quality of the instrument is fine. Playing with ragalakshna. Selections of the songs were fine and Entahromahanubavu was his samarpanam to saint Sri. Thiagarajar and to-day being the inauguration day of Thiyagaraja aradhana festival at Thiruvaiyaru. He has been well trained by his Guru Veenai Parthasarathi.

His thodi varanam, Vathabi, Shobillu, Kava va, Manavyalakim were very nice to listen. Main Pantuvarali though the alapana was short but neat. Niraval and swaram has some nice pidis for kriti Aparama Bhakthi. He played enna thavam (kapi) and Revathi thillana beautifully.

On 01st January 2010 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM. Sandeep N. Bhardwaj from US played an excellent violin-solo performance for VDS. He is handling the instrument very well with smooth & soft bowing. His knowledge and confidence is good at 14. Presently he is learning under the tutelage of Kanyakumari. He is learning vocal from Suguna Varadhacahri. His selections of the songs were fine from different composers. Both the gurus have trained him very well.

His both Kalyani and Bhairavi alapanas were fine to listen. Niraval and swarams also fine for kriti Upacharamulanu and has some nice pidis. He applied some imaginative swarms for pankaja lochana (Swathi Thirunal).

Percussionist Arjun Raghavan also from US played Mridangam with good techniques.

At 7.15 PM. Shyam Murali of Texas played excellent Saxophone performance. He is learning this art from Prashanth Radhakrishnan and Kadri Gopalnath and vocal from Lalitha Seshadri of US. His confidence and imaginations were good. He is playing with fine gamakas and involvement that is most important.

Hamsanadham was his sub-main for kriti Pantureethikolu. Both alapana and swarms were good. Main mohanam though the alapana was short played perfectly. Kriti mohanarama played very nicely. Parathpara, Alaipaiyudhe kanna and Shankarabaranam thillana were played melodiously.

Sriram Sridhar (Violin) and V. Prashanth (mridangam) gave fine support to Shyam.
