On 30th April 2010 (Friday) at 6.30 PM. P. Sangeetha performed a very good dance performance. She is quite confident and compassed in her first solo performance. She is lean and agile with good foot-work and subtle limb movements; full credit goes to her guru Sujatha Mohan for having trained her very well.

Jathiswaram was o.k. Sangeetha did the varnam well, answering the jathis neatly. She did the sanchari bhava very well. Chinnanchiru penn pole was attractive. We saw her agility in the snake dance. We wonder whether her body is made of rubber.

Music both vocal and instrumental was very good. Chitrambari (vocal), Ramshankar Babu (Mridangam), B.N.Ramesh (flute) and Anish Mohan (Keyboard).

On 24th April 2010 (Saturday) at 6.30 PM. Hamsika Karthik of Bangalore performed a fine & Very good dance recital for VDS. This is her first solo performance here at Chennai after she had her arangetram at Bangalore recently. This is a full fledged performance; she has been well trained by her guru Padmini Ramachandran. Her confidence is good. Her foot work and face expression is fine.

Jagadhotharana (kaapi; Purandaradasar) padam was the master-piece of the items she performed. Kamboji varnam a composition of Natesa Sundaram Pillai was performed well and she answered the jathis neatly. Her sanchari bhava was fine in the padams Jagadodharana and yarukkum adangatha neeli (abhogi; Harikesanallur Muthia Bagavathar). Dharmapuri Subba Rayar’s Javali and Thillana in Vasantha ragam were also good.

Balasubramaniya Sharma on vocal, mridangam by Janardhan Rao, Dr. Natrajamurthi on violin, Narasimhamurthi on flute and Sankarraman on veena have rendered their fine support to Hamsika.

Padmashree awardee, Dr. (Mrs.) Y.G. Parthasarathy, Dean and Director of PSBB Schools, a great connoisseur of music, dance and sports, chief guest of the evening programme and guest of honour Prof. C.V. Chandrasekar have blessed the dancer

On 18th April 2010 (Sunday) at 6.30 PM. That was a fine and very good dance performance by little C. Vishnu Priya. At 12 she cute, confident and has fine foot work. Dancing with smiling through out the two hours programme. It was a full fledged programme. She has been affectionately trained by her mother-cum-guru Shanthi Sriram.

Adi Sankara’s Ganesa Pancharatnam, traditional shanmuka gowthuvam, Raji Narayanan’s shabdam and she performed every thing very well. Thuraiyur Rajagopala Sharma’s atana varnam was good. An episode from the Bhagavatham, Vishnu’s abhinaya was fine while doing like naughty Krishna. Her bhairavi padam, Hamsanandi thillana and Andal also fine.

Chitrambari was enjoying the dance while singing, mridangam by Thiruvarur Venkatasubramanian and M.S. Kannan on violin have made their fantastic support to Vishnu.

On 17th April 2010 (Saturday) at 6.30 PM. Manaswini,s dance was fine and very good. Our regular artist and performing for the 3rd time at VDS. We must appreciate her involvement in the dance. She is Slim, tall, flexible limb movements and has fast foot work. It was a full fledged programme and has been very well trained her guru Suma Mani.

Her varnam Swamiyai azhathuvadi sakiye in kamas ragam of Tanjore quartet was good. Her abhinaya was fine, limb movements were elegant and she proved her keen interest in dance. Bho Sambho was simply superb.

Chitrambari Krishnakumar on vocal, mridangam by K. Venkatsubramanian, Kalyani Shankar on violin and Bhagyalakshmi on flute have rendered very good support to Manaswini.

Dr. Prameela Gurumurthi, Prof. & HOD of music dept., Madras University, chief guest of the evening has blessed the dancer.

On 16th April 2010 (Friday) at 6.30 PM. B. Akhila has performed excellent dance performance. At 15 she is very confident, having all the aspects to become a senior dancer. Lean, tall, elegant limb movements, brisk and excellent foot work and dancing with keen interest. Her bhava also fine. She has been well trained by her guru Urmila Sathyanarayana.

Akhila,s dance was fine in Lalgudi,s navarasa varnam. Her sanchari bhava and nrittam was fine on various episodes and different posses of goddess ambal. She answered the intricate jathis neatly. Thulsidas bhajan was so beautiful and Madhuvanthi thillana also very good.

The vocal support by Swamimalai S.K.Suresh, mridangam by Dhananjayan and flute by Sashidar have rendered their fine support. We must congradulate Rekha for having done the nattuvangam.

Kutchupudi Specialist Kalaimamani Smt. Sailaja, chief guest of the programme has blessed the dancer.

On 10th April 2010 (Saturday) at 6.00 PM. S. Vijay Ganesh’s vocal performance was fine and very good. He is our regular artist and this is his 3rd concert at VDS. His voice is fine, bold and clear especially in the higher octave. He uses fine gamakas and brigas. Pattantharam is very good and has been very well trained by his guru Lakshmi Krishnaswami.

Main Shankarabaranam alapana was fine for kriti Sarojadala nethri. Kalpanaswaram also good and neatly rendered. He sang the other kritis with ragalakshana. He sang the thukkadas beautifully.

M.K. Ananthalakshmi (violin) and Koushik Rajagopal (mridangam) gave a very good support to Vijay.

At 7.15 PM. V. Deekshita has performed excellent vocal concert. This is her 4th concert. Now she has improved in all departments. Over all knowledge and manodharma is high at 18. Voice is soft, sweet and versatile. Selections of the songs were fine and rare kritis. Guru Raji Gopalakrishnan has trained her very well.

Sub-main sudha dhanyasi alapana was fine. Kalpana swarams had variety for kriti Nirdhamuka. Her RTP in ragam simhendra madhymam was very good. She did sthudhi bedam also in ragam shanmugapriya both in the alapana and swarams. Pallavi maal maruganai muruganai ninay maname was good to listen. Her imagination in the swaram kalapana was good.

V. Supraja (Violin) gave adequate support and G. Kritivasan gave a fine support on the percussion.

On 03rd April 2010 (Saturday) at 6.30 PM. Samiha Iyer has performed a Very good dance recital for VDS. She is lean, tall & agile; her foot-work and confidence were good. Guru Sudha Bharath has trained Samiha very well.

Her varnam mathe malayadhwaja in kamas ragam was good. She answered the jathis neatly. Her dance was fine in the padams Ulagam pughazhum natiyakalaiye and ean palli kondieraiya. Her foot-work was brisk in Balamurali’s Kundalavarali was Thillana.

Radha Badri on vocal, mridangam by Nellai D.Kannan and Kalaiarasan on violin have rendered their good support to Samiha.

Veteran Bhagavathulu Sri. Seetharamasharma chief guest of the evening has blessed the dancer.

On 02nd April 2010 (Friday) at 6.30 PM. Shruthi Balamurali has performed a fine and very good dance performance. At 14 she is very confident and dancing with keen interest. Her bhava and foot-work is fine. She has been well trained by her guru Deepa Balaji.

Both dance and music was fine in Bhavayami Raghuramam. Shruthi enacted the different episodes of Ramayana very well. Her bhava was fine in the varnam. Her bhava and foot-work was fine both in the Chinna chinna padham vaithu in ragam kaapi and kadanakudhooklam thillana.

The vocal support by V. Venugopal, mridangam by K.R. Venkatsubramanian, violin by Muruganandam and flute by B.N. Ramesh have rendered their fine support.
